Auttomotive urea, also known as diesel exhaust fluid, is a key additive used in SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel vehicles. This solution, formulated with high-purity urea and deionized water in a specific ratio, catalytically converts nitrogen oxides (NOx) in exhaust gas into nitrogen and water vapor.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a non-toxic, high-purity solution composed of 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water specifically designed for use in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems. Using this fluid in diesel-powered vehicles, such as trucks, buses, and tractors, can help reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by 90%. It is not a fuel additive and must be added to a dedicated diesel exhaust fluid tank in diesel vehicles.

HOW DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID WORKS

When DEF is injected into the exhaust stream through a dedicated dosing module, it evaporates, leaving behind ammonia molecules that enter the catalytic converter. There, the DEF converts the NOx molecules into harmless nitrogen and water vapor, resulting in cleaner emissions. Keeping your truck equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) running low on DEF is simple—just check the DEF gauge (part of the diesel fuel gauge) to know when to refill. DEF is stored in a dedicated tank next to the driver's side fuel tank. Tank capacity ranges from 6 to 23 gallons, depending on the truck's intended use.

AUTOMOTIVE-GRADE UREA

Automotive-grade urea is a special, uncoated, highest-purity urea. It is the primary component of urea solutions such as diesel exhaust fluid or AUS40/45, used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx). It is the only urea that meets ISO 22241 standards and is the only urea suitable for producing DEF/AUS32/ARLA32 solutions. To meet ISO 22241 standards, urea must be of the highest purity and quality.
