It is suitable for a variety of crops and soils, especially those that require nitrogen and phosphorus. It can be used as a base fertilizer or topdressing. When applied to acidic soils, it reduces phosphorus fixation by iron and aluminum, maintaining high phosphorus availability. Deep application is recommended. In animal husbandry, it can be used as a feed additive for ruminants.

Diammonium hydrogen phosphate is used to flame-retardant textiles, paper, wood, and plant fibers, and to impregnate wicks to increase their durability and ensure self-extinguishing properties after a match is lit. It can be used as a dry powder fire extinguisher and as a phosphorus in fluorescent lamps. It can be used as a soldering flux for tin, copper, bronze, and zinc. It is also used in printing plate making, electronic tube manufacturing, and the ceramic and enamel industries. In the printing and dyeing industry, it is used for chrome dyeing of wool fabrics.
